New £104,000 States post is challenged
Saturday 8th March 2008, 12:00AM GMT.
A SCRUTINY panel is challenging the creation of a senior civil aviation post which, it has now been revealed, carries a salary cost of £104,000.
The Education and Home Affairs Scrutiny panel wants to know what the implications will be for the Island if the States do not back a proposal to create a directorate of civil aviation.
The directorate is intended to act as a regulator of civil aviation and be independent from Jersey Airport as the operator.
As a result, it is proposed by Home Affairs Minister Wendy Kinnard that the new directorate, to be run by one person, be established in her department to ensure the independence of the regulator.
