Monday 10th March 2008, 12:00AM GMT.

SPORTING Academics won promotion back to Division I following a four-year absence after defeating St Brelade 4-2 win at the IJ Bathe Field on Saturday afternoon.

Tommy Walsh’s young side profited from a hat-trick by Noel Kernan and a single by Ben Gallichan despite having leading marksman Jamie Savory sent off. Rob Campbell and Fintan Kennedy (penalty) scored for St Brelade.

St Ouen, who trail the Accies by one point but with a game in hand, maintained their title challenge after scoring four times without reply against the home team at St Martin/SCF. Scott Quarrell registered a brace and Tom Richardson and Shane Carre singles for the winners who are almost assured of a place back in the top flight at the first attempt unless they lose all three remaining games and leak over 20 goals!

Beeches Old Boys, the only team who could overhaul St Ouen, scored in the final minute of each half to secure a 2-2 draw away to St Clement. Luke Burton, who scored from long range, and Matt Scriven put the hosts two-up only for the Old Boys to reply through Jamie Shaw and Rob Harrop.

Paul Duffy and Matt Pamplin were on target in Magpies’ 2-0 win against Jersey Nomads at the FB Fields while new St John manager Peter Herridge gained his first win – 3-1 at St Lawrence where Jamie Smith, Sean Ganly and Scott Potter were on target.

Juniors Barry Keith and Bradley Rimeur scored a hat-trick and a single respectively as second-placed Jersey Wanderers hammered Division I Reserves champions St Paul’s 7-3 at the Hockey Club.

Scott Young (two) and Liam Sutton also netted for Wanderers and Dave Alexander and juniors Declan Sowney and Joe Goaziou for St Paul’s.

Junior James Hudson bagged a brace for St Brelade at Le Boulivot but it was not enough to prevent the Westerners from being relegated following a 4-2 defeat by hosts Grouville. For the winners, Nelio Marote hit home two penalty kicks with Steve Holt and Luc Le Mi่re adding a goal apiece.

St Peter and Rozel Rovers both won 3-1, St Peter at Les Quennevais against Jersey Scottish and Rozel at Le Couvent against St Ouen. Aaron Parkinson (two) and Bradley Russell scored for St Peter; Craig Robbins (two) and junior Nick Bolton for Rozel and Dale Parker for St Ouen.

Holders Portuguese Club will defend the Lady Bingham Trophy against St Clement at Springfield on Tuesday 8 April after both won their semi-finals at Les Quennevais.

Portuguese were successful by the odd goal in three against Trinity while St Clement defeated St Martin/SCF 3-1 after extra time following a goal-less 90 minutes.

Michael Teixeira and Joao Mendonca scored for Portuguese and Marc Reid for Trinity. Lennon Prouting notched St Martin/SCF’s consolation with St Clement on target through Adie Hick, Matt Rawlings and Paul Andrews.

St Peter and St Brelade maintained third and fourth positions respectively after home wins in Division C, St Peter 2-0 against St Clement courtesy of goals from Nigel Godfray and Tom O’Donoghue.
