HOCKEY – Taylor-made victory: Investec Jersey Hockey Club veterans defeated HA Vets Cup favourites Slough 5-0 away yesterday to reach the semi-finals of the competition for the first time ever. Peter Taylor scored a hat-trick and Mark Bailey and Jerry Bolton singles while goalkeeper Paul Duckworth excelled by saving a penalty flick.

TRIALS – Super Saunders: UK rider Steve Saunders took the A Route title in the Jersey Classic & Modern Trials Club’s Jersey Telecom two-day trial held at various venues over the weekend. Other class winners were: Graham du Feu (Pre 65 Premier); Paul Baudains (B Route); Neil Venton (Twin Shock Premier); Andy Bellee (Novice); David Radford (UK, Easy Modern); Michael Ernest (Germany, Twin Shock Easy); Neil Walker (UK, Pre 65 Easy) and John Tye (UK, Pre 65 Easy Rigid).

SQUASH – Success at last: Jersey defeated Guernsey 19-11 at the Jersey Squash Club on Saturday to win the senior inter-insular for the first time since 1998.

SAILING – Hobie Dragoons at Worlds end

Hannah Voak and Laurence Carter finished 16th overall and Lily and David Carter 12th in the World Hobie Dragoons championships in South Africa over the weekend.

CYCLING – Caesarean hat-trick: Caesarean Cycling Club riders Ali Cann, Chris Spence and Vince Peron took the first three places respectively in Division I of the Divisional Road Race yesterday organised by Velo Sport Jersey on the Bal Tabarin circuit in St Ouen.

Mountainbike winners: Class winners in the Caesarean Cycling Club’s Malzard and Hutcheson Builders sponsored races held yesterday at Val de la Mare were: Aimee Hugh and Oliver Daniels (up to 5 years); Indi Malzard and Luc Mon Petit-Le Brun (6-7 years); Phoebe Percival and Harry Garnham (8/9 years) and Nikita Connan and Matthew Rayson (10/11 years).

SHOOTING – Turner triumphs: Jersey marksman David Turner won Class A and the overall Trophy in the Cobo Open Air Gun Open Championship held in Guernsey over the weekend. Turner triumphed by 21 points.

Deadly Douglas: Mark Douglas won the Modern and Military Arms Association’s B Demoy 7.62 x 39 Carbine shoot by nine points from Tony Satchwell at Crabbe on Saturday. Douglas scored 111 points from his deliberate and rapid disciplines.

Davy High Gun: Maurice Davy was High Gun with a score of 45 ex-50 in Crabbe Clay Pigeon Club’s 50-bird sporting shoot held at Crabbe yesterday. Class winners were, A: Paul Le Neveu (43). B: Ross Boydens (37). C: Matthew Peach (37) and Veteran: John Bedford (34).

High Gun tie: There was a tie for High Gun in the Lecq Clay Target Club’s 50-bird shoot held yesterday in St Ouen as Richard Le Brun and Jon de la Haye scored 46 in Class A and Class AAA respectively. Other class winners were Mark Andrews (AA, 43); Andy Stead (B, 42); Greg Graham (C, 37) and Kay Cragg (ladies, 29).

GOLF – Wood wins Blinder: Paul Wood scored a net 31 points off nine handicap to win Les Ormes Golf Club’s Blind Holes competition yesterday. Wood won by one point from five other players.

Royal in charge: Royal Jersey Golf Club won their opening match in the Hampshire 7-a-side tournament by defeating St Clement 6-1 at Royal Jersey yesterday.

Davies romp: Oliver Davies won the Thirt Trophy yesterday at Wheatlands by eight points from Trevor Allen after scoring 24 points off ten shots received.

First leg advantage: Royal Jersey GC won the first leg of the Falklands Trophy match against La Moye by 71/2 matches to 41/2 against La Moye at Royal Jersey on Saturday.

NETBALL – Regional tournament: Jersey club’s Accies and St Clement finished fifth and ninth respectively in an U-14 regional tournament held at Bath University at the weekend.

Primary winners: St Michael’s Preparatory (in the A and B schools’ tournament) and St Mary’s (C and D) won their respective netball tournaments held on Saturday morning. St Mary remained unbeaten on the day before emerging to win their final 9-1 against St John.

FENCING – Jersey Championships: Class winners in the Jersey Junior Fencing Championships held at Springfield on Saturday were, Foil: Alex Cotton (under-10); Richard Bernstein (U12); Edward Christie (U14) and John James (U16). Sabre: Ralph Spencer Tucker (U14); Jonathan Bernstein (U16). Epee: Edward Christie (U14) and John James (U16).

Winter m๊lee

Elaine Paisnel won the ladies’ section with seven wins and a plus 45 score in the final round of the Jersey Petanque Club’s PBS winter m๊lee held at Les Quennevais yesterday. Maggie Allchurch was second with six wins and plus 35 and Beryl Vibert third with six wins and 34. Ron Le Herissier, Louie Bowen and Matthew Pinel took the first three places respectively in the men’s competition after all three won seven games. The event was eventually decided on shot difference.

VOLLEYBALL – Yesterday’s scores: Results of matches played in the Insurance Corporation League yesterday are, Men: Pentagon Red Hot Tomatoes beat Walkers Sandkickers 3-0; IC JVA beat HLB Jackson Fox Island Ladies 25-17, 25-13, 25-13. Ladies: 2e2 Panthers beat 2e2 Tigers 25-18, 25-22, 25-23. Mixed: Walkers beat Usual Suspects 25-19, 25-21, 25-20.

SWIMMING – Tigers’ success at Waterlooville: AIB Tigers achieved five new Southern Counties qualifying times during the Hampshire Junior County Championships at Waterlooville. Garth Jackson claimed two of them and was joined by Susie Phillips, Declan Bourke and Ella Dias. Club records were also set, Henry Job taking two and Danny Blandin and Declan Bourke the others. All-in-all the club had eight finishers in the top 15 of the BAGCAT awards.
