Greenfields’ ex-manager at tribunal
Tuesday 11th March 2008, 12:00AM GMT.
A SOCIAL worker who claims that he was sacked for ‘whistle-blowing’ told an Employment Tribunal yesterday that he had not been allowed to appeal against his dismissal and never saw reports about concerns he raised at Greenfields.
Simon Bellwood, the former manager at Greenfields Centre, is claiming that he was unfairly sacked by the Health and Social Services Department after just a few months in the job – and that they got rid of him after he raised concerns about child protection.
Mr Bellwood says the department relied on solitary confinement as a punishing children, rather than a means of protecting them.
His claims are being contested by the department, who say that he was removed because he was not doing his job properly and that he was sacked on ‘capability and conduct grounds’.
They are expected to begin presenting their case later in the week.
