Band is a Derby star

JERSEY’S Josh Band (14) won the U15 Band One title at the Derby 4 Star Junior table tennis tournament over the weekend.

Just back from the senior world team tennis championships in China, he put that experience to good use to win from an entry of 54 players, including fellow Islanders Max Tupper (14) and Hugo Tupper (11).

Beating Huw Jones from Wales in the final, 11-6, 11-4, 11-4, this is understood to be the first junior UK event win for the Jersey Table Tennis Association.

Left-hander Band achieved this by only dropping two games throughout.
