Whistleblowing’ did not lead to sack
Thursday 13th March 2008, 12:00AM GMT.
HEALTH and Social Services have backed down and given a sacked social worker full compensation two days into his Employment Tribunal.
Former Greenfields centre manager Simon Bellwood has been given the full settlement he was looking for in his unfair dismissal claim – but has accepted that he was not sacked for ‘whistleblowing’ on child protection policies.
The size of the settlement has not been revealed, but the Employment Law allows for an award of four weeks’ pay for employees with between six months and one year’s service. Mr Bellwood worked at Greenfields from 1 August 2006 until July 2007 – but was put on ‘gardening leave’ for the last five months of his employment.
