A July showcase for treats and tradition
Saturday 15th March 2008, 12:00AM GMT.
ISLANDERS can expect a fantastic weekend at this year’s JEP West Show and the main acts and entertainment have already been booked.
The organisers of the event on 12 and 13 July are keeping precise details under wraps but they promise that the show will be very popular with animal lovers, especially equestrian fans and those who are especially fond of man’s best friend.
The biennial show in St Peter has become a hugely popular event and is expected to attract more than 15,000 people over the weekend. And West Show Association president Darren Quenault said that they were determined to build on the success of the 2006 show.
‘Our plans for this July are every bit as ambitious as in previous years,’ he said. ‘As well as showcasing the best that Jersey has to offer, we will be bringing over some top UK and French acts which will add a carnival atmosphere.
‘The whole point of the show is to keep rural activity alive. This is a major attraction for the industry and we are totally focused on creating another great weekend.’
The 20-vergee showground will be complemented by 40 vergees for parking. There will be live music, food and drink stalls and marquees highlighting traditional Island life and Genuine Jersey produce.
In addition to the main acts, there will be the ever-popular cattle show and show jumping display as well as a range of parades featuring heavy horses, classic cars, military vehicles and agricultural vehicles.
The JEP are the main sponsors of the West Show and marketing manager David Edwards said that they were looking forward to another great weekend.
‘We are delighted to continue our support of the West Show,’ he said. ‘It maintains the best traditions of a country show with exciting attractions and varied entertainment for all ages.’
Anyone who wants to hire a stall for the show can contact Lesley Curgenven on 482197 or visit www.westshow.org.je for more details.
