Schools filter out the class bloggers

STUDENTS in Jersey have been barred from using Facebook or YouTube while at school.

The Education department is piloting a new internet filtering system in all schools which could be introduced permanently if it proves to be a

success.

Jeremy Harris, assistant director for policy and planning, said: ‘We have a responsibility to make sure that only appropriate material is available on the school network.’

If the system did come into place in Jersey schools it would follow moves by many companies to ban social networking sites in the workplace, following the revelation that hundreds of hours of office time are lost each day due to employers spending time on these websites.
