Scots squeeze out Jersey trio in British final

JERSEY’S Sue Noel, Freda Videgrain and Gaynor Thomas lost 17-14 to Scotland in the final of the triples event at the Women’s British Isles Indoor Bowls Championship in Llanelli on Monday.
The team, competing for the Channel Islands, previously beat Ireland 22-14 in the semi-final.
Guernsey’s Alison Merrien came back from being 20-14 down to beat Wales’ Becky Shaw 21-20 to collect her third British Isles indoor singles title. Fellow Sarnian, Lianna Bichard, won the junior under-25 singles.
Last week the Channel Islands were competing at the Men’s Championships in Perth, Scotland, and Jersey’s Malcolm de Sousa went out to England’s Danny May 21-13 in the preliminary round of the junior singles.
The fours team of Scott Ruderham, Alan Shaw, Lee Nixon and Thomas Greechan lost to Ireland 21-7 in their semi-final.
