At liberty: 120 sex offenders
Thursday 20th March 2008, 12:00AM GMT.
MORE than 120 sex offenders who ‘potentially pose a risk to children and adults’ are currently living in Jersey completely unsupervised, according to the States police.
The sex offenders have been convicted of sex crimes ranging from paedophilia and rape to the download of child porn.
However, the police have no powers to monitor them once they have served their time in prison.
The number of sex offenders who could pose a risk to the community, which the force puts at 121, is revealed today in the 2007 States police annual police report.
Acting Supt Dave Minty, who is currently head of operations, explained that there was no law requiring sex criminals to report where they were living or working and that the force had no power to routinely monitor them.
