Great competition forecast for Bouely Bay hill climb

Saturday 22nd March 2008, 12:00AM GMT.

BOULEY BAY will once again be taken over by motorsport lovers on Easter Monday, with over 80 competitors lining up for the first Rabeys Commericial Vehicles Hillclimb of 2008.

The Jersey Motorcycle And Light Car Club event will feature a variety of vehicles including karts, bikes, historic vehicles, sports and racing cars – and a quad bike!

The day will feature five record holders competing across the various classes.

The most eagerly anticipated class of the meeting is for the 500cc motorbikes. Record holder Oliver Holmes, fastest man up Bouley Bay on two wheels, is back with a strong field chasing him. Steve Baudains and James Buchanan move up from the 250cc class both astride new KTMs which appear to be the weapon of choice for this technical duel. Also on a KTM is club president Martin Keith. After last year’s 45.00 second run he vows to break into the low 44 seconds this year.

On four wheels, after last year’s impressive debut in a single seater, Jack Allenet is back along with his father Andrew in the awesomely powerful Ralt single seater. Hopefully the mechanical problems have been resolved and the pair can have a good tussle for the honours in the 3-litre racing car class, for which Guernsey’s touring cars world champion Andy Priaulx holds the record.

After gaining recent racing experience in England, Gary Hotton is chasing the unlimited bike record. The 48.83 sec mark, set by Guernseyman Peter Davies back in 1999, could be under threat if conditions are right.

Kevin Gell switches from bike to car this season. He has recently acquired a Mitsisbishi Evo rally car which is expected to go well but will have stiff competition from Andrew Faulconbridge in a Audi Quattro and Mark Follain and Dean Le Bailey in awesomely powerful Ford Escort Mk1s who will entertaining the crowds with their power slides coming out of the tight Radio Corner.

It all adds up to a fantastic event to kick-start the Island’s motorsport calendar. Practice runs start at 10am with official timed runs to follow throughout the day.
