THE purchase by the Jersey Cattle Breed
Society of an 1883 painting will indirectly be supporting the national Help For Heroes charity.
The 60 in x 42 in picture Springtime by Thomas Lloyd depicts a woman with a group of Jersey heifers and some goats, and has been bought by the Royal Jersey Agricultural and Horticultural Society from Frank Falle for £15,000.
He has put the sum, which is several thousand pounds lower than its current value, to funds which he is raising for the purchase of a Victoria Cross which was awarded to an Islander from a woman who will be donating the proceeds to the Help For Heroes charity.
Derrick Frigot, speaking before he retired as society president recently, said that they were very pleased to buy the painting and were hoping to boost the funds for the charity further by creating a limited number of prints, postcards and other merchandise for sale.
