Time running out for sand sculptor
Wednesday 26th March 2008, 12:00AM GMT.
JERSEY’S sand wizard may be forced out of the Island unless a new home can be found for his creations.
Symon Smith’s 30,000-tonne sand sculpture exhibition at Sunset Nurseries will close in September when the owner sells up – and Mr Smith has yet to find a new home.
He has criticised both Tourism and Environment for failing to support local attractions, and he feels that he will have no other option but to leave Jersey if a suitable site is not found soon.
‘I have been to see both Planning and Jersey Tourism, but this seemed to be a complete waste of time as they have not been very helpful,’ he said. ‘It would be easier if I went somewhere else. Other countries do so much for their tourism compared to Jersey.’
