Boyle thanks his lucky stars over ban
Friday 28th March 2008, 12:00AM GMT.
JERSEY Scottish midfielder Jack Boyle has been served a 35-day suspension – but is still free to be selected for both the Island under-18 and senior Muratti matches.
Boyle was sent off for retaliation in stoppage time during Scottish’s 2-0 Le Riche Cup semi-final win against St Ouen at Springfield on 11 March.
His case was dealt with by the Jersey Football Association’s disciplinary committee on Monday 17 March and, as per rules, he had 14 days from that date if he wished to appeal against the referee’s report.
So the talented youngster’s ban starts next Monday – the day after Jersey’s U18s play Guernsey away in the Junior Muratti.
It finishes on Sunday 4 May, the day before Jersey play G uernsey in the Cimandis Muratti Vase final at Springfield.
Boyle, who captained Jersey’s U18s last year and won his first senior cap against Aldernsey earlier this month, said: ‘I thought I was going to miss something; I can’t believe I won’t and I know I am really lucky.
‘Unbelievably everything has fallen into place perfectly; I still can’t believe it.
‘It was a bad tackle on me and I still have the scar to prove it. I was frustrated; I pushed the opponent in the face and did not punch as was reported at the time.
‘I know I was wrong to do what I did and I am going to try and learn from my mistake. I’ve been suspended, I’ve accepted the consequences and hopefully it will not happen again.’
