Tuesday 1st April 2008, 12:00AM BST.
JERSEY Wanderers Football Club’s Matthew Rondel is the latest recipient of the Capita Jersey Football Association Centre of Excellence’s Sid Guy Award.
The Grainville School year-9 pupil, who plays as a central defender or in midfield, was presented with the accolade last night at Les Quennevais from the late Sid Guy’s sister, Valerie Todd. The award is given to the player, chosen by the coaches in the Centre, who has shown up best in terms of development and attitude. Centre director Paul Renton said: ‘Matthew has been at the Centre three years and speaking to his coaches over each year they all spoke of him highly. He has an excellent attitude and a very good ability to learn. This award is recognition for all the hard work he has put in.’
Rondel represented the Island at Primary School level and this season he played in the Jersey Secondary Schools’ under-15 team which reached the quarter-finals of the Inter Association Trophy together with winning the Star Trophy at Springfield against Guernsey last month.
