Walker defends sacking at youth custody centre

Chief Minister Frank Walker has stood by the decision to sack former manager Simon Bellwood.
After an investigation into staff at Greenfields youth custody centre started this week, he told the States yesterday that there were ‘valid reasons’ for the dismissal, but said procedural errors in the handling of the disciplinary process meant that the case had to be settled.
Three days into Mr Bellwood’s Employment Tribunal last month, the States dropped their opposition and paid him a settlement, after he agreed he was not ‘sacked for whistle-blowing’.
