Car emissions duty plan is voted down

THERE will be no new duty on car emissions or vehicle registration after the States backed a Deputy James Reed-inspired rebellion.
Yesterday States Members voted down the
proposed Vehicle Emissions Duty and the existing Vehicle Registration Duty – leaving a £4 million hole in States finances. When GST is introduced on 6 May, VRD will end and will not be replaced.
But Deputy Reed said that as GST would cover vehicle transactions anyway, and as fuel duty already raised more than ฃ20 million a year, an extra motoring tax was not needed.
