Green field homes to go ahead

PLANS to build in the countryside will not be put off until a full Island Plan Review is carried out.
The States yesterday rejected a plea not to rezone any new sites for development until a full zoning study is carried out.
The proposition from Deputy Carolyn Labey was defeated by 34 votes to 12.
Members did back her requests to Environment Minister Freddie Cohen to draw up a formal policy for building on old glasshouse sites, and to force builders of big developments to provide some social housing.
But the main proposal to put off plans for retirement homes in green fields was rejected after Housing Minister Terry Le Main said that there was an urgent need for hundreds of homes.
