Call for closer ties with clients

JERSEY’S finance industry will have to develop a closer relationship with its clients once the UK Budget proposals come into force on Sunday.

That was the message from John Shenton, tax partner at Ernst & Young and a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners in the Island.

He was speaking days before the Budget proposals, which included plans to impose a £30,000 levy on wealthy ‘non-domiciled’ foreigners living in the UK, are implemented.

His sentiments were echoed by Simon Morgan, chairman of STEP Jersey, who said that the uncertainty around the proposals had caused UK resident ‘non-doms’ a great deal of concern.
