Relay on the move
Friday 4th April 2008, 12:00AM BST.
THE venue for the tenth Jersey Relay for Life has been changed following disruption at last year’s event.
For nine years the cancer charity event had been held at FB Fields but last year groups of drunken youths caused a major disturbance at the walk.
There were reports of fighting, damage and the taunting of walkers taking part in the 24-hour relay held in aid of Cancer Research UK. The police were called repeatedly overnight from Saturday to Sunday last July.
To avoid the possibility of this happening again and to make room for a
larger number of participants, the venue has been moved to St John’s Recreation Centre.
Event organiser Andy Voss said: ‘We have been debating moving the event for the last couple of years and we thought we would err on the side of caution and move it after what happened last year.
