Hackney are Jersey’s first hurdle in football festival

Saturday 5th April 2008, 12:00AM BST.

JERSEY kick-off their 34th Primary School’s Football Festival at the FB Fields tomorrow morning with a match against regular visitors Hackney.

The Londoners, who are here for their 24th visit, have had several of their players over the years going on to play professionally.

Jersey will be without inter-insular hat-trick hero Jonathan Glendening as a result of a cracked tibia sustained playing rugby last weekend for Jersey U11s in a tournament at Marlow.

Jersey manager Rob Cameron said: ‘Jonathan will be a big miss as he has scored a lot of goals for us. Not only will we miss him on the field we will miss in the dressing room too as he has been an integral part of our team spirit. We were all disappointed to hear of his injury and we wish him a speedy recovery.

‘Everyone is looking forward to the Festival; it’s a tough schedule with games every day but we’ve added three players to the squad to help us through.

‘The trio were with us before but because we could only take 14 on tour to Reading they were the unlucky ones to have been left out. They have returned now and recently we’ve all been involved working on set plays for next week.’

There are matches every day from Sunday through to Friday next week with games starting at 10.15 and 11.15 every morning.

Jersey play Newbury A on Tuesday; Plymouth (11.15 am) on Wednesday; Bath Yellow on Thursday and Thurrock on Friday.

Jersey squad: Euan Van Der Vliet, Connor Spence, Jack Gibson, Johnny Le Quesne, Francis Lekemamati, Keiran Queree; Jamie Hamilton, Philip Maguire, Paul Hickling, Tom Ward, Ryan Couillard; Daniel McFarlane, Callum Le Brocq, Keiran Bone, Scott McClurg and Nicolai Hansen.
