St Helier leads the way in charity disc collection

ST HELIER is leading the way in collecting for this year’s Big Disc Sale.

The parish say that their collection bin at the Town Hall is already three-quarters full.

This year’s Big Disc Sale – a joint venture between the JEP and Jersey Side by Side – will be held at Hautlieu School on Saturday 17 May. Last year’s event was attended by hundreds of Islanders and raised a total of £11,350 towards rebuilding an earthquake-hit school in Kashmir.

Collection bins for the sale were delivered to secondary schools and parish halls around the Island a week and a half ago.

Schools are now closed for two weeks for the spring holidays, but many have already informed parents about the collection bins in their newsletters. They are hoping that families will have a clear-out over the spring holidays and that they will have a positive response at the start of next term.

However, while parishes such as St Helier and St Clement have already been inundated with discs, some say that they have got off to a slow start.
