Cardboard recycling plea

Monday 7th April 2008, 12:00AM BST.

THE public have responded well to the new recycling facilities in Jersey but want to be able to drop off cardboard too.

New banks installed early last month now offer the public the opportunity to recycle plastic bottles, aerosols, tin cans and foil in their area, which most parishioners previously would have had to take to the Bellozanne centre.

Three new centres at Grainville School car park, St Clement’s parish hall car park and Goose Green car park at St Peter have been installed to encourage more people to take up recycling.

However, at the moment anyone who wants to recycle cardboard — including packaging on household goods — must either take it to Rue des Pres or to Bellozanne.

Emma Richardson, the assistant recycling officer, said that the department received many calls each week from the public asking why they could not leave cardboard at the Islandwide recycling banks.
