Deputy makes official complaint about minister

Monday 7th April 2008, 12:00AM BST.

A STATES Deputy has lodged an official complaint about Housing Minister Terry Le Main.

Deputy Geoff Southern has written to the Privileges and Procedures Committee, accusing Senator Le Main of breaking the Data Protection Law during the rezoning debate in the States last week.

In his complaint, Deputy Southern also accuses Senator Le Main of breaking the States Members’ code of conduct by failing to declare his friendship with a local developer, named in the States as ‘Mr Noel of Alpine Estates’.

Senator Le Main has denied the allegations, claiming that they are ‘totally and unbelievably false’.

He says he has only spoken on behalf of two applicants to planning in his time as minister, and neither involved Mr Noel.

‘I have never represented him and I have got nothing to hide,’ he said.
