BADMINTON – Breaking tradition:
The Credit Suisse under-18 Jersey badminton team won the U18 inter-insular for the first time in four years, beating Guernsey 23-19. Jersey won the boys’ singles 4-2, drew the girls’ singles 3-3, won the boys’ doubles 5-4, lost the girls’ doubles 5-4 and won two of the three sections of the mixed doubles 3-1, losing the other 3-1.
It was a different story for the Credit Suisse Jersey Veterans badminton team as they lost their inter-insular 22-8 to Guernsey. Despite the men winning 5-4, the ladies lost 9-0 and the mixed doubles players lost 9-3.
NETBALL – Safety first win:
J United netball team beat St Austell Marjons 48-39 but lost to Galmington 56-46 yesterday in the South West Premier League ensuring their safety from relegation with two matches remaining.
VOLLEYBALL – Suspects beaten:
Walkers beat Usual Suspects 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-10) and McSteam beat Peter Green Builders 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-16) in the Insurance Corporation Mixed Volleyball League yesterday. In the men’s league Insurance Corporation beat Astros 3-2 (25-21, 25-15, 18-25, 22-25, 15-10).
SHOOTING – Miller tastes victory:
Terry Miller won the Crabbe Clay Pigeon Club’s High Gun award yesterday, scoring 44 from a possible 50. Other class winners – A Class: Maurice Davy 39 ex 50; B Class: Adrian Fox 37; C Class: Graham Miller 24; Veteran: John Bedford 30.
Motorama Shield romp:
Richard Honeycombe was a clear winner of the Modern and Military Arms Association’s rifle and pistol match for the Motorama Shield on Saturday. His total score of 126 pushed Mark Douglas (121) into second spot.
Snowy success:
Braving the early morning snow brought Ernie Le Brun the High Gun honours in the Lecq Clay Target Club’s 50 Bird Sporting yesterday with 39 scored to win Class A. Graham Le Cornu was second in that class with 38 and Dave Le Rendu and Richard Le Brun equal third on 37. Other results – Class B: 1, Chris Settle 37; 2, Graham Pallot 36; 3, Paul Cragg 35. Class C: 1, Rob Wilson 32; 2, John Shales 28; 3, Adrian Le Gal 24. Ladies: 1, Kay Cragg 25. Junior: 1, Tom Lewington 31; 2, Sam Payn 30; 3, John Payn 28.
GOLF – Straiton medals:
Joe Straiton won the Demi Golf Society April Monthly Medal at St Clement on Saturday. The nine-handicapper’s gross 71 gave him a net 62, one ahead of Craig Beeley, 7 handicap, on 63 with Paul King, 13 hcp, a further two behind on 65.
Loftsson wins National:
Loftur Loftsson won the Grand National Nine Hole Stableford on Saturday at Wheatlands GC with 19 points. Patricia Creighton was second on 18 with P Horsfall third on 17.
National Nines:
Wheatlands’ D team of Allan Black, Paul Jones and Oliver Davies won the first Channel Islands qualifier for the National Nines of Europe on Saturday at Wheatlands with a total score of 104. Wheatlands’ A team of Trevor Allen, Peter Horsfall and Kenny Jaffray were second on 102 and Wheatlands’ C team (Richard Kemp, Marcel Le Claire and Richard Spence) were third on 96.
PETANQUE – Light work:
Roy Langlois won the Carrefour Petanque Club Many Hands men’s doubles māšlee with three wins +30, and Eunice Jehan the ladies’ doubles with 3 wins +26 on Saturday at Le Couvent. Michael Morel, 3 wins +19, was second in the men’s event with Frank Morel, 2 wins +21, third. Joan Le Roy, 3 wins +23, was second in the ladies’ event with Judy Colwill, 2 wins +9, third.
MOTORSPORT – Du Feus dominate:
Lee Rogan was the A Route winner at The Jersey Classic and Modern Trials Club’s motorcycle trial at Rozel yesterday. Other winners – Pre 65 Premier: Graham du Feu; B Route: Eddie du Feu; C Route: Thomas Jones; Pre 65: Archie du Feu; Twin Shock: Andy Jeanne; Junior A: Adam Vibert; Junior B: Amelia Jeanne; Junior C: Kealan Bisson.
