Jersey start with win in World Cup
Tuesday 8th April 2008, 12:00AM BST.
JERSEY’S Christine Grimes got off to a great start at the WBL Women’s Bowls World Cup in Warilla, Australia, with an 8-8, 9-5 win over Singapore’s Leng Li Li today.
The win places Grimes, who narrowly lost in last year’s quarter-final, in third place overall in section one of the draw and tomorrow she will play America’s Rosa Gandara, who also picked up a win, putting her second overall.
Grimes will be looking for a reverse of the result she achieved last year, when Gandara beat her in a tie-break on the first day of the World Cup in the second of nine group matches.
Guernsey’s Alison Merrien, the current Champion of Champions, got off to the best possible start with a 25-0, 20-1 victory over Portugal’s Mary Banks which puts her top of section two.
