Beatson strike keeps Trinity’s Combination title hopes alive

Wednesday 9th April 2008, 12:00AM BST.

TRINITY FSC maintained their Coca-Cola Combination Division I title aspirations with a hard fought 1-0 victory over Grouville at the Riley Field in Trinity last night.

After Trinity goalkeeper Jimmy Styles made good saves from Marc Nightingale and Luc Le Mi่re early on, Trinity hit back to take the lead on the half hour with a superb cross-shot volley from John Beatson.

Trinity squandered several good opportunities in the second half before Styles pulled off another fine stop from a long-range effort from Grouville substitute Steve Holt.

Trinity are now three points behind St Paul’s with both clubs having one game to play. Both are on Saturday, Trinity at the Hockey Club against Jersey Wanderers while St Paul’s, who need one point to make certain of the title, host St Peter at St Saviour.

If Trinity win and St Paul’s are beaten there will be a play-off for the championship early next week.
