Grimes hit hard in World Cup
Wednesday 9th April 2008, 12:00AM BST.
JERSEY’S Christine Grimes is in seventh place after three rounds of the WBL Women’s Bowls World Cup in Warilla, Australia.
Grimes followed up her first day 8-8, 9-5 win over Singapore’s Leng Li Li with another victory, over the USA’s Rosa Gandara, in round two. But that great result, earned with a 4-0 play-off win after sharing the first set 7-6 and losing the second 13-5, was followed by a heavy defeat, 15-5, 11-3, against Malaysia’s Siti Zalina Ahamad in round three.
That reverse put her down from a top two spot to seventh with her shots for and against ratio now 37-58. But with six rounds still to play and two wins under her belt Grimes still has everything to play for.
Guernsey’s star Alison Merrien, the Current Champion of Champions, is in the other group and currently holds second spot after two victories, over Portugual’s Mary Banks and Korea’s Da-Hye Pak, though World No 1 Val Smith awaits in round three.
