Net closes in on crime reporting
Wednesday 9th April 2008, 12:00AM BST.
THE States police are piloting a new online scheme to make it easier and more convenient to report low-level crime.
A website has been launched which allows Islanders to report theft, vandalism and theft from a motor vehicle.
The site address is www.jersey.police.uk.
Since the website went live last month, six people have made online reports.
Police chief Graham Power said that crimes reported online would receive the same level of attention as those which were reported in person at the station or by phone.
And he said that his officers would be alert to those who might try to use the service to make false reports in an attempt to cheat insurance companies.
