Alloa’s young Wasps to help prepare Island for Muratti

Thursday 10th April 2008, 12:00AM BST.

JERSEY’S last test before the Cimandis Muratti next month will be against an under-19 squad from Scottish League Division II club Alloa Athletic.

The Scottish side, nicknamed the Wasps, will play at Springfield on Saturday 26 April, just over a week before Jersey host Guernsey at the same venue on Monday 5 May.

Jersey manager Dave Kennedy said: ‘It’s great for our players to be given an opportunity to play against up-and-coming professional players; we’ve had excellent matches against Blackburn Rovers and Reading and I’m sure Alloa will provide another big challenge for us.

‘I’m told they will be bringing a lot of under-19 players together with a couple of first-teamers who are currently returning from injury. Five of the U19s have had first team experience and I’m sure they will be looking forward to the game as much as we will.

‘Alloa are coached by Hugh McCann and he was my mentor when I was in Scotland. This is where we have made the contact to get the game arranged and I’m delighted they are coming to play us as part of our preparations.’
