Guernsey pull out of CI ladies’ bowls match
Thursday 10th April 2008, 12:00AM BST.
A LACK of bowlers has led to Guernsey withdrawing from the women’s Le Quesne Trophy bowls inter-insular which was due to have been played in Jersey this weekend.
Jersey Women’s Indoor Bowling Association president Margaret Le Sueur confirmed that the match was off but declined to comment further until the matter has been discussed further with their Guernsey counterparts this weekend.
The inter-insular involves six rinks of four bowlers played in each island in alternative years.
It is believed that Guernsey had only a dozen bowlers available to play and not a full obligation of 24, as the competition rules demand.
The loss of the fixture will be a big miss for Island bowlers, especially those who may have been in the running to represent Jersey for the first time.
Guernsey will be providing opposition for the weekend’s Channel Island individual championships, with the winners qualifying for the British Isles championships.
