Pair jailed for ‘savage’ bleach attack
Thursday 10th April 2008, 12:00AM BST.
A VIOLENT drug abuser who squirted corrosive chemicals into another man’s face, leaving him partially sighted, disfigured and with bad facial scarring, has been jailed for 6ฝ years.
Lee Anthony Knowles (35), of Manchester, was described as having acted with the ‘utmost savagery’ during the attack on Malcolm McColl (30) in Parade Gardens on 19 August.
He was sentenced yesterday by the Superior Number of the Royal Court, which is convened to hear the most serious cases.
It is alleged that Knowles threw the cocktail of caustic soda and bleach over Mr McColl because his victim called him a ‘smackhead’. Mr McColl, who is originally from Dunbartonshire, has suffered from depression and post-traumatic stress since the attack.
