Tourism ‘has recovered from bad publicity’

Saturday 12th April 2008, 12:00AM BST.

JERSEY’S attraction as a tourist destination has already recovered from any negative impact that resulted from the historical child abuse inquiry at Haut de la Garenne, according to surveys conducted in the UK.

And as a result a major national advertising campaign was launched yesterday to try to increase visitor numbers for the coming summer season.

Just short of £500,000 will be spent in the next three weeks on network television advertising and direct marketing.

Over ฃ200,000 will come from the Tourism Development Fund, and the remainder from Economic Development departmental budgets.

Forward booking patterns have recovered to last year’s levels and the awareness of Jersey as a resort in the UK is high, according to Economic Development Minister Philip Ozouf.
