Move to reopen free animal clinic

Monday 14th April 2008, 12:00AM BST.

A £250,000 Islandwide appeal is being made by the Animals’ Shelter to reopen its welfare clinic for pet owners who cannot afford to pay vets’ fees.

The shelter has sent out appeal notices to householders informing them that to re-establish the clinic will require significant funding and an increase in donations and sponsorship.

The animal welfare clinic was set up at the shelter in 1998 but had to close in 2005 through lack of funding.

Between 1998 and 2004 the clinic treated hundreds of sick animals and it had over 850 animals on its register.

Cheques for the appeal should be made payable to the JSPCA and sent to the shelter at 89 St Saviour’s Road, St Helier, JE24GJ.
