ELIZABETH CANN’S straight-sets win over Poland’s Anna Narel yesterday put England into the final of the European Mixed Team Badminton Championships.
Three-times national champion Cann put in a strong performance in defeating Narel 21-18, 21-8, a result which gave England the crucial third win of the day in Denmark.
In the group stages England beat Iceland 5-0 on Saturday, although for Cann the event started on Sunday when she featured against the Czech Republic, beating Kristina Ludikova 21-6, 21-10 as England won 4-1.
England are in the final for the first time since 1984 and will play reigning champions Denmark in the title decider starting at 6 o’clock this evening. Tomorrow the individual European Championship gets under way, with Cann drawn against Germany’s Janet Koehler.
