Tuesday 15th April 2008, 12:00AM BST.

A FORMER warden of Haut de la Garenne children’s home charged with alleged sex offences appeared in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Gordon Claude Wateridge (76) is the only man so far to have been arrested and charged in connection with the major investigation by the States police into historical child abuse.

Wateridge, originally from Croydon, is charged with indecently assaulting three girls under the age of 16 more than 30 years ago at the then Haut de la Garenne children’s home. He is also charged with possessing a firearm without a valid certificate on 29 January 2008 at his home.

The case was adjourned until 12 May and Wateridge was released on bail.
