No charge for policing Guernsey Live
Tuesday 15th April 2008, 12:00AM BST.
FESTIVAL organisers Positiv will not have to pay for policing at Guernsey Live next month and it is unlikely that any officers will be drafted in from the UK.
Last year there was controversy after 30 UK police officers were brought over for the Jersey Live festival, which cost the organisers £90,000 forcing them to put an extra ฃ15 onto the ticket price.
It is understood that the number of police officers deployed to Jersey Live was ten times higher than that at nearly all the festivals in the UK. Jersey Live organisers even threatened to cancel the annual event here because they were forced to pay for police. Guernsey Live will be staged next month but the JEP has learned that there will be no charge for policing the event and authorities in Guernsey do not intend to seek help from the UK.
