Britton’s billiards title

Wednesday 16th April 2008, 12:00AM BST.

GARY BRITTON was crowned Island billiards champion for the fourth time in his career when he beat Guy Heys 500-193 earlier this week.

Britton, who knocked out the top seed and reigning champion Chris Alexander in the first round, beat Heys with breaks of 66, 49, 39, 54 and 43. The early stages of the final were close, with Britton on 144 and Heys on 76, but with consistent breaks Britton pulled away 213-203, 302-122 and 417-156.

Britton’s previous wins were in 1997, 2000, and 2001 and he will now play for the Channel Island title, which he has won twice before, on 26 April in Guernsey.

The match was refereed by Phil Smith and the trophies were sponsored by the Lifeboat Cafe, Albert Pier.
