GST: Opera House braced for impact
Wednesday 16th April 2008, 12:00AM BST.
JERSEY Opera House could struggle to break even following the introduction of GST.
Unlike the Arts Centre, the theatre is not a registered charity so will not be exempt from the tax.
The Opera House director, Jasmine Hendry, said that the issue of GST was something that was currently being discussed by the theatre’s management. The cost of GST would not be added to ticket prices immediately, but the situation would be reviewed at the end of the theatre’s financial year on 31 December. Following this, she said, the Opera House would either continue to absorb the tax, or else strike a balance between absorbing it and adding it to tickets.
