Lime-filled pit found at Haut de la Garenne

POLICE are asking the public if they know anything about two pits which were dug at the back of Haut de la Garenne over 25 years ago – one which contains large amounts of lime.

This call for information is being made after a man came forward and told them that he was called to the building by care staff and asked by one of them to dig two pits some time between the late 1970s and when the building was closed as a children’s home in the mid 1980s.

He said that when he asked staff what the work was for he was told that it was none of his concern
