Wednesday 16th April 2008, 12:00AM BST.

THE March RPI figure, released today, is, at 3.2%, significantly lower than the 4.5% recorded at the end of December but still remains above the States target.

Over the past 12 months food prices have increased by almost 9% – the biggest rise in ten years – and electricity and gas prices have gone up by more than 14%.

Today’s figures show that Islanders are paying an extra 12p a litre for petrol, and Housing costs rose by 4% since the same time last year.
