Planning want more St Helier residents

TOWN planning rules are being rewritten to encourage Islanders to live in St Helier.
Environment Minister Freddie Cohen says he is dropping car parking requirements, rearranging amenity space requirements and relaxing rules on converting old offices into housing.
He says that instead of building in the countryside, Planning rules should adapt to make the town more attractive to homeowners.
In a white paper issued this morning, Senator Cohen said that developers should be encouraged into reconverting 19th century houses split into flats decades ago.
