Tupper takes the plaudits in table tennis knock-outs

Thursday 17th April 2008, 12:00AM BST.

YOUNG Hugo Tupper has been star of the show at this week’s DIS Electrical Jersey Closed Table Tennis Championships.

The 12-year-old won through to the U13 singles final without dropping a game in any of his best-of-seven matches against Jordan Wykes and Lucy Walker.

Tupper will meet Sam Allen in the final after Allen had a rather tougher time before emerging victorious in four games against Matthew Fisher and in five close games against Jack Mills.

In the U15 girls Jodie Le Maistre and Emily Robins entertained the crowd with some fine shots in a six-game thriller which was won 11-8 by Robins.

However, Robins found Helen Liron in imperious form in the semi-final, where Liron smashed her way to the final, winning 4-1.

The tournament, which followed the Jersey Open last weekend, began on Tuesday night at the Geoff Reed Centre at the FB Fields in St Clement.
