Union to act over price rises

THE Island’s largest union this morning gave warning of a summer of industrial unrest amid claims that the latest RPI figure does not reflect the reality of soaring prices.
Members of T&G Unite have already indicated that they will not accept yesterday’s figure of 3.2 per cent as the basis of this year’s pay talks.
They say that it does not accurately reflect the real cost of living in Jersey and their experience of ever-increasing food, housing and fuel prices.
Nick Corbel, the regional industrial organiser for the T&G section of Unite, said that the situation was being exacerbated by the impending introduction of GST.
