Another Muratti injury blow for Jersey

Saturday 19th April 2008, 12:00AM BST.

JERSEY’S Cimandis Muratti squad has been hit by another major injury – midfielder Russell Le Feuvre has been told he has been playing with a broken toe.

It was sustained a couple of weeks ago but the Grouville player only found out the extent of the injury after an X-ray earlier this week.

Jersey manager Dave Kennedy said: ‘This is a massive blow for the Island. Russell has been excellent for the team this season and he was certainly a candidate for man-of-the-match in our semi-final victory in Alderney.

‘He keeps the ball better than anyone else playing in that position. Unfortunately, he is now a major doubt for the Muratti next month.’

Kennedy has still to name his final squad of 18 to face Guernsey at Springfield on Monday 5 May. Midfielder Dave Brodie and utility player John Beatson have been been ruled out completely, while question marks remain over goalkeeper Andrew Bird (chipped bone), defender Scott Devlin (ankle) and striker Paul Aitken (ankle).

Kennedy said: ‘Dave played for Scottish Reserves last weekend to try out his hamstring but unfortunately he only aggravated it again. John has been struggling with a knee injury too, and he will not make it either. Andrew we will assess as we go along, while Scott and Paul hope to prove their fitness today playing for Jersey Scottish at St Peter.’

Kennedy currently has the following 21 players in the frame: Goalkeepers: Andrew Bird, Craig Fletcher, Jimmy Styles. Defenders: Scott Devlin, Stuart Andre, James Scott, David Lloyd, Jack Cannon. Midfielders: Russell Le Feuvre, Mark Brown, Chris Andrews, mark Lucas, Steven McCarter, Jack Boyle, Liam Walshe, Darren Swanson, Dave Le Roux. Strikers: Craig Leitch, Paul Aitken, Barry Beatson, Marco Vieira.
