Saturday 19th April 2008, 12:00AM BST.

AARON CANAVAN beat Adam Shorto 4-1 at the Mechanics Institute, St Helier, last night to become Jersey’s first CI snooker champion since 2002.

Canavan lost the first frame after a nervous start but came back to win the next four frames in a row.

He took the second frame 63-53 by potting brown to pink, the third frame with breaks of 60 and 21, the fourth frame with breaks of 32 and 35 and the fifth after two breaks of 21 and a good bout of safety play on the green before then potting it, and the brown and blue, to win the title.
