We are not valued, say pensioners

Saturday 19th April 2008, 12:00AM BST.

OLDER people believe they are undervalued and are being made to feel like a nuisance to the Island.

Transport Minister Guy de Faye, Social Security Minister Paul Routier and Assistant Housing Minister Jackie Hilton faced the fired-up audience this week.

Major concerns were expressed about the new Income Support system and it was clear that many people are struggling to grasp the scheme.

Senator Paul Routier was heavily criticised by the audience when the floor was opened up for questions.

One St Helier pensioner warned the Senator: ‘We are a force to be reckoned with. Be aware; we are getting ourselves together and we are not going to be silenced anymore.’
