100 firms still not ready for GST

MORE than 100 local businesses are not yet registered for GST.

Deputy GST director Robert Fox says that he is aware of at least 100 companies with a turnover of more than £300,000 which have not signed up with his department.

Mr Fox is worried that many businesses are not ready for the tax, which comes into force on next month.

He says that there is no excuse for not being ready by 6 May, and warned businesses that those which ‘dragged their heels’ could face fines.

‘There isn’t any excuse for businesses not being ready. It is really down to them,’ he said.
