2nds beat the Banks
Tuesday 22nd April 2008, 12:00AM BST.
Jersey RFC’s 2nd XV won the Doug Tranter Cup final 29-6 on Sunday, despite having been 6-0 down at half time.
The opposition, Jersey United Banks, had secured their six points early on thanks to two penalties, converted by scrum-half Tom McAviney.
But the RFC 2nd Xv ground down the opposition in the second half to take a commanding lead in the match, held at St Peter.
‘Jersey have strength in depth, not just in their team but on the bench as well,’ said Banks’ captain Peter Haworth afterwards.
‘Towards the end of the match we seemed a bit jaded, although I was pleased by our defence for most of the game.’
