3% tax will end M&S markdown
Tuesday 22nd April 2008, 12:00AM BST.
ISLANDERS shopping in Marks and Spencer stores will be paying the same as UK shoppers once GST kicks in on 6 May.
At the moment every item under £15 costs the same as it would in a UK store and goods over that price have a three per cent discount.
But next month anything that costs more than ฃ15 will have GST added, ending the three per cent markdown enjoyed by Island shoppers.
Sandpiper, who own the M&S franchise in the Island, have decided that GST must bring Jersey’s prices in line with those of the UK.
Clair Sequeira, head of general merchandise for Marks and Spencer in Jersey, said that it was a fair move.
